- We recommend that you pre-wash washable fabrics before making up in case there is any slight shrinkage.
- To do this unfold the fabric, press out the fold line then machine wash at the appropriate temperature or hand wash with a good quality detergent.
- If you are not sure if a fabric is washable do a test wash on a small square of the fabric.
- Measure it before and after washing so that you know whether it has shrunk and how much.
- Certain types of wool will wash but I always recommend doing a test wash first. Wash by hand, not machine, and use a good quality wool detergent.
- Heavyweight wool or wools with a pile are best dry cleaned.
-
- Sometimes you need to straighten the grain as manufacturing steps such as folding, baling or rolling can pull fabric off grain.
- Pull the fabric on the bias to straighten the grain.
- This is easy to do. There are good websites and Youtube videos that explain how to find out whether your grainline is straight and how to straighten it. You could try the following:
- YouTube instructions
- Comprehensive grain line information
-
- We usually cut or tear fabrics with the grainline. The exceptions to this are knitted fabrics or printed fabrics with a definite horizontal design.
- The torn edge can be slightly distorted but we allow for this when we measure the fabric.
-
If a warning appears saying “we do not have available the desired quantity” please phone our online unit as we may have more stock available at our shop.
