How To Use Sequin Fabric This Party Season

There’s nothing more synonymous with party season than sequins and sparkles! Whether just adding a pop of shimmer to a classy outfit or going full head-to-toe, this is the one time of year you can go all out and not look at all out of place. Here we’ve pulled together some inspiration for whichever garment you fancy giving a go this winter. If you’re looking for tips on how to sew with sequin fabric, there’s a whole bunch of great advice in this blog post by Tilly and the Buttons here.

Now this is sure to be a showstopper! Nothing quite says drama like head to toe sequins. You can shine brighter than a disco ball in one of these ensembles. Pair with a waist cinching belt and some heels for a retro Studio 54 look. Suggested patterns: This super simple Butterick pattern is classy and flattering. This Simplicity pattern is flirty and sleek with it’s bodice back. This McCall’s pattern is tailored and sophisticated with a dramatic plunging neckline. This Paper Theory pattern is classic, simple and comfortable which looks great on all body shapes.

For those who aren’t quite up for going full razzle dazzle, you can’t go wrong with the trusty ‘jeans and a nice top’ combo. You can jazz up any outfit with a touch of shimmer on top,  which makes it perfect for going day-to-night. Suggested patterns: This Simplicity bodysuit is a nostalgic dream with the beautiful flute sleeves and would look amazing in sequins or sparkles.  This classic cowl neck vest from The Friday Pattern Company will look perfect with a glitzy jersey or velour. This New Look Pattern is close-cut and feminine, which really accentuates the physique and would look great in sequins with the layered sleeves in view A.

Last but not least, we’ve got some glitzy trousers that look great dressed up or down. Jewel tones look particularly striking if you’re opting for sequins on the bottom half, as you want to aim for balance and avoid looking too bottom-heavy. Suggested patterns: This Burda pattern has been an absolute favourite of ours this season. This is definitely the pattern to go for if you want to aim for the boxy culottes as shown in the middle photo above. If you’re going for a more close-cut style, these skinny fit Burda jeans would be great, just make sure to be snipping the sequins on those seams! For a more flared look as seen in the first image above, this McCalls pattern will see you boogying all night long.  If you want more inspiration on trouser styles, check out our blog post on trouser silhouette trends!
